Newspaper Journalist Kyle Stevens Explains His Work at the Queens Gazette in an Exclusive Interview
Longtime readers of the Queens Gazette have recently praised the contributions of journalist Kyle Stevens since joining the prestigious newspaper back in October 2021.
From covering the brightest stars of Hollywood on the red carpet to braving the frontlines of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic during the Omicron outbreak in December of last year, the journalist made it his personal mission to keep the community safe and informed in an uncertain time. Simply put, Stevens never once backed down from any kind of challenge since his arrival at the 40-year-old printed publication. Kivo Daily recently interviewed Stevens about his future plans at the Gazette, and now he has more to say.
“Being a lifelong New Yorker, I feel like I have a moral responsibility and obligation to chase the stories that people want to read about,” says Kyle Stevens in an exclusive interview with Medium. “You have to give the people what they want. Having an extensive background in the entertainment industry, I know what it takes to get the job done in an efficient and effective manner. I take my position as a journalist seriously, and my long track record backs that up.”
Despite the urgent demands of his job, it’s not all serious business for the show business veteran. Kyle Stevens is no stranger when it comes to putting himself out there and letting loose when he has some downtime from reporting the facts to New Yorkers. He was heavily featured in a recent Saturday Night Live segment with Jason Sudeikis that was viewed over 2 Million times on YouTube. Stevens was also seen in a series of humorous, viral commercials for The Perfect Jean that was positively received by shoppers.
“It’s no secret that I enjoy a good laugh,” says Stevens. “I appreciate the moments when I can get in front of a camera and inspire others to flash big, beautiful smiles. Anytime that there’s an opportunity to get a large number of people to unwind, you can bet I’m going to hop on it. Life is precious, and we all need to laugh as much as we can while we are here. I really mean that.”
As much as Kyle Stevens relishes the fame of being in front of the camera, he likes being behind it, too. His photographs of World Wrestling Entertainment Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon and the elaborate stages of the popular electronic music festival Electric Zoo were recently published and showcased to a global audience. His work also runs in the monthly Queens Scene magazine. Stevens takes pride in making his various subjects look as good as they possibly can as a professional photojournalist. Over the years, he’s been in crowded photo pits, managing to snap stunning portraits of stars like Wyflec Jean, The Office’s Kate Flannery, Jim Gaffigan, Samantha Bee, and Grammy award-winning Anderson .Paak. Stevens is detail-oriented and stays focused when it comes time to take pictures of his famous subjects.
“A photograph tells a specific story. When I have a camera in my hand, I want to make sure that anyone who observes my work can feel that specific moment in time…deep inside their bones,” Stevens says. “Important moments should be cherished, and I always do my best to invoke fond feelings.”
Whatever the next incoming assignment might wind up being, Queens residents can feel at ease knowing that Kyle Stevens is hot on the trail of topical, breaking news items that matter to the community.
“I report the news as a native New Yorker who never left. There are not too many people in the area who can say that these days. I have immense New York pride, and I always want to do right by the city that helped raise me,” concludes Stevens.
